I am a licensed clinical social worker with over 25 years of direct practice experience.  My undergraduate degree in Psychology and Master of Social Work degree were earned at the University of Michigan.  In addition, I hold the DCSW credential, which is the highest clinical certification given by the National Association of Social Workers.
I am in a group practice affiliated with Genesys Regional Medical Center and have been in this practice since 1989.

Professional Experience and Facts

My professional education and early years in practice emphasized brief, solution-focused therapy and family systems therapy.  These methods are less concerned with labeling individual pathology and more on identifying and achieving desired outcomes than other therapeutic styles. Here are some additional career highlights:

  • After receiving my BA I worked toward a PhD in philosophy at the University of Minnesota.
  •  I taught psychology at the University of Michigan-Flint and have served as a clincal instructor for graduate level social work students from Michigan State University and The University of Michigan.
  • I trained for over 11 years in the Japanese art of Aikido, receiving weekly training as an instructor for 4 of those years.
  • I am a Licensed Master Social Worker through the State of Michigan in Clinical and Macro practice. 
  • I served in an administrative capacity, as Director of Quality Improvement at Hillside for over 6 years, monitoring accreditation, personnel issues and documentation for the clinical staff.

  • I have considerable training and knowledge in grief and bereavement, substance abuse, and other health-related concerns.

Other Facts
I live with my husband and teenage son in Davison, Michigan and enjoy a number of domestic pursuits, including cooking, gardening and knitting.  I read and  research information on a daily basis in areas of emotional and physical wellness, believing it is my professional responsibility to keep abreast of the newest information in these areas.  I have a lifelong passion for social justice and continue active in political and charitable organizations dedicated to serving and empowering the disenfranchised members of our society and those suffering injustice in other parts of the world.
